Mortgage Assistance Program

 The City of Miami Mortgage Assistance Program (MAP), for eligible homeowners within City of Miami limits provides assistance towards the past due mortgage payments (arrears) of qualifying households who are:

(1) 140% Area Median Income (AMI) or below
(2) experienced job loss or income reduction on or after March 1st due to COVID-19
(3) submit a completed application package that includes photocopies of all required supporting documents listed on the application form.

The home must be owner-occupied with a homestead exemption, within City of Miami limits. The homeowner must have been current on their mortgage prior to March 1, 2020. The MAP program can pay PITI (Principal, Interest, Taxes and Insurance) between March 1 and December 30, 2020.  

This program’s application will be available starting August 17, 2020, 9 am. The program has just over $1 million in State of Florida Coronavirus Relief Funds (CRF) and can help approximately 185 households. Due to limited funds, applicants will be assisted on a first-come, first-ready, first serve basis. Funds for qualifying households will be paid directly to the mortgage lender on behalf of the homeowner with no repayment required. 

 

 

Steps

Confirm your home’s location falls within City of Miami limits 

  • Open your web browser and type: https://www.miamidade.gov/pa/property_search.asp
  • Click on the Property Search button.
  • Enter your home address and press the search button.
  • Verify your folio number starts with “01.” If your home’s folio number does not start with “01”, it is not within City of Miami limits and it does not qualify for this MAP program. 

Confirm your property is eligible

  • Property is owner-occupied with a homestead exemption.
  • Property is a single-family home, a townhome, or a condominium.

Confirm your household is currently 140% Area Median Income (AMI) or below, based on household size

Applications will be available for downloading and printing Mortgage Assistance Application. City of Miami homeowners seeking a paper application can call 305-416-2081, leave their first and last name and mailing address, and an application will be mailed to them. Photocopy and Attach Required Documentation

A checklist included in the application form will indicate all the documents that must be submitted, along with a completed application form, in order for a submission to be reviewed. All required documents must be submitted together in ONE sealed envelope. A recap of some of the supporting documents being requested in the application is below:

  •      Self-Certification of COVID-related hardship (form included in application);
  •      Self-Certification of income for all household members over 18 years of age (form included in application);
  •      Copy of driver's license, ID or birth certificate for all household members;
  •      Copy of Fee Simple Deed in applicant's name;
  •      Copy of current mortgage statement indicating arrears

Submit One Application Package

The submission, in one sealed envelope with all supporting documents, can be sent via U.S. Mail to the PO BOX noted on the application form or dropped off at the Department of Housing & Community Development, 14 NE 1 Ave., Lobby Drop Box, Miami, FL 33132, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 4 pm.

A staff member will contact the applicant after receiving a submission and advise them of their eligibility.

Applying for the MAP does not guarantee eligibility or assistance.  Incomplete application packages (missing documents) will not be processed. Application packages received for this program are considered public records under Chapter 119, Florida Statutes, and cannot be returned to the applicant.
