City Commission Approves Raising Assistance Amounts for Mortgage Assistance and Eviction Prevention Programs
(Miami, FL – October 1, 2020) - Late last week, the City of Miami Commission approved raising the assistance amounts for both the City’s Mortgage Assistance Program (MAP) and Eviction Prevention Program (EPP), for qualifying City homeowners or renters who meet either program’s requirements.
The MAP program can now provide up to $10,000 (one-time) towards the mortgage arrears (Principal, Interest, Taxes and Insurance) of qualifying, owner-occupied households within City limits only (property address must begin with Folio 01) that are 120% Area Median Income or below, experienced an income hardship on or after March 1 due to COVID-19, were current on their mortgage prior to March 1, and meet all other program qualifications.
The MAP applicant must submit a completed application package that includes photocopies of all required supporting documents as specified on the application itself. The MAP award is paid directly to the qualified applicant’s mortgage lender in the form of a grant, with no repayment required. The MAP program rolled out on August 17 with approximately $1.3 million in funding and fifty-three households have been approved for assistance to date. The program will remain open through November 30, or until funding is exhausted. Please see the MAP application for full details.
The EPP can now provide up to $7,000 (one-time) towards the rental arrears of qualifying renter-occupied households within City limits only (property address must begin with Folio 01) that are 80% Area Median Income or below, experienced an income hardship on or after March 1st due to COVID-19, have a three-day notice from their landlord, and meet all other program qualifications. The EPP applicant must submit a completed application package that includes photocopies of all required supporting documents as specified on the application itself. The EPP award is paid directly to the qualifying renter’s landlord with no repayment required. The EPP rolled out on August 3 with just over $300,000 in funding and 57 households have been approved for assistance to date. The program will remain open until funding is exhausted. Please see the EPP application for full details.
Paper applications for the MAP and EPP are available at City of Miami NET offices for pick up only. Please call 311 for NET office locations/hours and to confirm that the applicant’s address is within City of Miami limits. Applicants for both programs are assisted on a first come, first ready, first served basis. Incomplete application packages (missing documents) will not be processed. Documents cannot be returned to the applicant. Applying for, or receiving assistance through, the MAP, does not guarantee that the applicant will not be foreclosed on. Applying for, or receiving assistance through, the EPP, does not guarantee that the applicant will not be evicted.
The new assistance amounts become effective upon Mayoral signature of the related resolutions or at the end of ten calendar days from the date these resolutions were passed.
