NOTICE OF VACANCIES ON THE CITY OF MIAMI HOUSING & COMMERCIAL LOAN COMMITTEE
and Affordable Housing Advisory Committee
In accordance with Chapter 2, Article XI, Division 19 of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended (“City Code”), the City of Miami ("City”) is seeking applications for vacancies on its committee known as the Housing and Commercial Loan Committee (“HCLC”). Ten (10) HCLC members will also serve on the City committee known as the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (“AHAC”), in accordance with Chapter 2, Article XI, Division 8 of the City Code. Pursuant to Section 2-1303(d) and Section 2-1103(d) of the City Code, no appointments to the City’s HCLC or AHAC shall be made until notice of the appointments are published in a newspaper of general circulation at least fifteen (15) days prior to making the appointments.
The HCLC is comprised of thirteen (13) members, who are eighteen years of age or older, and is authorized to approve or disapprove housing and commercial loans and grants to be provided by the City through any funds administered by the Department of Housing and Community Development. Those funds include, but are not limited to, the following: Community Development Block Grant, HOME Investment Partnerships, Housing Opportunities for People with AIDS, Florida State Housing Initiatives Partnership (“SHIP”), and the Affordable Housing Trust Fund. The AHAC, which is comprised of eleven (11) members, who are eighteen years of age or older, including one (1) City Commissioner serving in an ex officio capacity, was established pursuant to Section 420.9076 of the Florida Statues, to serve as the advisory committee required by the SHIP Program, to provide oversight and ongoing recommendations on affordable housing issues, to approve local housing incentive strategies recommendations, and to review the City’s implementation of previously recommended strategies.
At this time, the HCLC and AHAC are seeking applicants who can serve in the following capacities:
a. One member who is actively engaged in the residential home building industry in connection with affordable housing;
b. One member who is actively engaged in the banking or mortgage banking industry in connection with affordable housing;
c. One member who is actively engaged as a not-for-profit housing provider;
d. One member who is actively engaged as a real estate professional in connection with affordable housing;
e. One member who is actively engaged as an advocate for low-income persons in connection with affordable housing;
f. One member who is actively engaged a representative of those areas of labor actively engaged in home building;
g. One member who resides within the limits of the City of Miami; and
h. One member who represents employers within the City of Miami
Members of the community who are interested in serving a four (4) year term in one of these positions must submit a completed application form, along with a CV that includes the qualifications of the applicant. Application forms are available for download online at www.miamigov.com/HCLC-AHAC or for pick up at the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), City of Miami, 14 NE 1 Ave., Second, Floor, Miami, FL 33132. Applications received from the public for the categories above, no later than Monday, April 5, 2021, will be reviewed and considered by the DHCD. The Department shall then recommend applicants to the Miami City Commission for final appointment at an upcoming Miami City Commission meeting.
