The City of Miami, District 5 Commissioner Christine King, the Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Office of Capital Improvements proudly announce the reconstruction of the Legion Park Community Center and other improvements that are part of this project!

The Refurbished Community Center is now open to the community! Project is complete for your enjoyment! The City of Miami and District 5 Commissioner and Chairwoman Christine King celebrated with the community the ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, December 13, 2024!

Legion Park Parking Lot Refurbishing Project is Complete!
Parking Lot to Open on Friday, October 25, 2024!
Project Included:
- Pavement restoration
- Repainting of pavement markings
The parking lot before renovations:
A Community Meeting was held to present the status of three City Projects at Legion Park on September 19, 2024, at 6:00pm, at Morningside Park (750 NE 55th Terrace, Miami, FL 33137). Construction statuses were shared with residents through photos, as well as the proposed design for a new walkway (from the parking lot to the seashore) and a new park gateway on NE 67th Street.
OCI Construction Status - July to October 2024
- Mechanical rough installation is completed
- Electrical & plumbing rough completed
- Dry wall installation completed
- Roofing completed
- Elevator installation completed
- Installation of tiles in bathrooms completed
- Installation of terrazzo flooring completed
- New four air conditioning units (HVAC) 1, 2, 3 & 4 installation completed in August 2024
- Wooden floors and ceiling tiles installation completed in August 2024
- New glass doors and 4-foot wall - completed
- Next Action: Waiting for sensor replacements, A/C units and elevator. The building is anticipated to be completed by the end of November 2024.

New and improved elements in the building will include:
- Re-roofing of existing shingle roof (possibility of a clay barrel tile roof is being evaluated)
- Upgrade/remodel of bathrooms
- New warming kitchen
- Terrace repairs and new landscaping
- New elevator and fire alarm system
- New acoustical ceilings, interior layout modifications and replacement of selected doors and windows
- Second floor finishes and cabinetry
- Miscellaneous repairs of exterior walls
- Milling and resurfacing of existing parking lot and sidewalks repairs
- New tennis court and resurfacing of existing tennis court
While the building is in construction, a rental trailer will be available on-site to maintain the park’s programming for school children.
