Ms. Gibbs-Sorey joined the Office of the City Attorney in December 2017. She is currently assigned to the Land Use and Government Division handling grants, contracts, Community Redevelopment Agency matters, special projects, and legislative matters. Ms. Gibbs-Sorey previously served as the City’s Municipal Prosecutor handling code enforcement and quality of life matters. Prior to serving as the City’s Municipal Prosecutor, Ms. Gibbs-Sorey served as the City’s Public Records Coordinator where she trained all City staff on Florida’s Public Records laws. Prior to becoming an Assistant City Attorney, Ms. Gibbs-Sorey served as Chief of Staff for a Miami City Commissioner where she managed the staff as well as planned, directed, coordinated, and evaluated the overall daily operations of the Commissioner’s office. Ms. Gibbs-Sorey has also served as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Judge Andrew L. Cameron of the Ninth Judicial Circuit in Orlando, Florida where she oversaw legal hearings including small claims and landlord tenant matters. Ms. Gibbs-Sorey was a fellow in The Florida Bar Leadership Academy Class VII and currently serves as a member on The Florida Bar’s Governmental and Public Policy Advocacy Committee. In addition, Ms. Gibbs-Sorey works as an adjunct professor at Lynn University teaching Business Law and serves on Lynn University’s College of Business and Management Advocacy Board. Additionally, Ms. Gibbs-Sorey was a recipient of the National Bar Association’s 2018 Top 40 Lawyers Under the Age 40 and a recipient of the National Bar Associations Young Lawyers Division 2019-2020 Chairman’s Award for Leadership Excellence.
