Charter Amendment to Require Continuous Residency Immediately Preceding Qualifying for Mayor and City Commissioner

Shall Section 4 of the City Charter be amended to require continuous residency in the district in effect at the time of qualifying for a minimum of one year immediately preceding qualifying for candidates running for City Commissioner and require continuous residency in the City of Miami for a minimum of one year immediately preceding qualifying for candidates running for Mayor?

Charter Amendment: Partial Conveyance for Revised Development at 1111 Parrot Jungle Trail on Watson Island

Shall Miami's Charter be amended authorizing sale and/or lease of 5.4 acres on Watson Island based upon fair market value of $135,000,000 to Ecoresiliency Miami LLC for residential and commercial uses pursuant to applicable zoning, waiving bidding, and requiring:

  • Returning 13 acres to City to construct new public waterfront park at no cost to City;
  • Cancelling existing theme park and hotel lease; and
  • Contributing $15,000,000 for affordable housing, infrastructure, and other public benefits?

Charter Amendment to Revise Mixed-Use Leases on Watson Island

Shall City Charter be amended to revise existing leases at 888 MacArthur Causeway, sell 3.2 acres of leased property to tenant for fair market value of not less than $25,000,000, reduce overall development, extend term 24 years, waive bidding and authorize, at no cost to City:

  • $9,000,000 contribution to affordable housing plus infrastructure improvements;
  • Timeshare units become condominiums;
  • Mixed-uses to include office; and
  • Expanded public waterfront and pedestrian promenade along Biscayne Bay?

Enmienda a la Carta Constitucional para modificar contratos de arrendamiento de usos mixtos en Watson Island

¿Deberá enmendarse la Carta Constitucional de la Ciudad con el fin de modificar los contratos de arrendamiento existentes de la propiedad ubicada en 888 MacArthur Causeway, vender 3.2 acres de propiedad arrendada al inquilino por un valor justo de mercado de no menos de $25,000,000, reducir su desarrollo en general, extender en 24 años el plazo, eximir de licitación y autorizar lo siguiente, sin costo alguno para la Ciudad:

Shall Section 7 of the City Charter be amended to allow more time for the Miami-Dade Elections Department to better prepare and conduct a runoff election for City of Miami elections involving the Mayor and City Commissioners by changing the date of a runoff election from the third Tuesday after the first Monday in November to the second Tuesday in December, in odd-numbered years?

During Early Voting you may vote at any of the Countywide Early Voting sites. For a list of Countywide Early Voting locations visit: https://www.miamidade.gov/global/elections/home.page

PLEASE NOTE THAT MIAMI CITY HALL WILL NOT BE USED AS AN EARLY VOTING SITE DUE TO ITS LIMITED CAPACITY TO HANDLE THE LARGE TURNOUT EXPECTED FOR THE NOVEMBER 5, 2024  STATE OF FLORIDA GENERAL ELECTION AND CITY OF MIAMI SPECIAL ELECTION. THE HISTORIC GARAGE LOCATED ON THE SAME PROPERTY AS THE FORMER MUSEUM OF SCIENCE WILL BE USED.  ADDITIONALLY, THE LITTLE HAITI CULTURAL COMPLEX WILL BE USED INSTEAD OF THE LEMON CITY BRANCH LIBRARY DUE TO RENOVATIONS (SEE BELOW*).

A secure ballot intake station (Vote-by-Mail Drop Box) will be available and staffed at each Early Voting location during Early Voting hours of operation.

When voting at any voting location, whether at an Early Voting site or on Election Day, be sure to bring a current and valid identification that contains your name, photograph and signature.  While it is not required that you bring your voter information card to the polling place, it will expedite your check-in process.

Campaign Reports: Per Florida Statute Sections 106.07(1) and 106.0703(1)(a)Campaign Treasurer's Reports shall be filed on the 10th day following the end of a calendar quarter, except that if the 10th day following the end of a calendar month occurs on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, the report shall be filed on the next following day that is not a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday.  Additionally, per [F.S.106.07(1)(d)2], political committees making contribution or expenditures in support or opposition of the ballot issue, shall file reports on the 18th and 4th days before the Ballot Issue Special Election.

Voters with Special Needs

Every voting location in Miami-Dade County meets Americans with Disability Act (ADA) standards. Each one is equipped with a paper-based voting system that uses touchscreen and/or audio technology, which could help voters who have issues with their eyesight, trouble reading or disabilities

Voter Registration

Deadline to Register to Vote (Book Closing):

  • October 7, 2024 - Deadline to register to vote for General Election and City of Miami Referendum Special Election that will be held on November 5, 2024

Vote Early 
There will be a Secure Ballot Intake Station (Vote-By-Mail Ballot Drop Box) available and staffed at each of the Early Voting locations during the Early Voting hours of operation.

  • General Election and City of Miami Referendum Special Election - Early Voting: Monday, October 21, 2024  through Sunday, November 3, 2024

City of Miami registered voters may choose to vote at any of the Early Voting Sites on the dates and times in which they are open.

Vote-By-Mail Information (VBM)
Per state law, any voter who wishes to have a mail ballot sent to their home must submit their request no later than 5:00 p.m. on the day specified below. Requests may be submitted to Miami-Dade County Election's office. 

  • General Election and City of Miami Referendum Special Election: Last day to request VBM is October 24, 2024 at 5:00 p.m

Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Elections Department is located at  2700 NW 87th Avenue, Miami, FL 33172 and will be open until 5:00 p.m.

Note: A vote-by-mail ballot must be returned and received by the Supervisor of Elections no later than 7:00 p.m. (local time) on election day for the respective election, in order to be counted.

If a voter forgets to sign their vote-by-mail envelope or their signature does not match, state law allows voters the opportunity to submit an affidavit to cure their vote-by-mail ballot. The affidavit must be completed and submitted to the Miami-Dade County Elections Department, along with a copy of their identification, by 5:00 p.m. on the second day after an election.

Vote by Provisional Ballot
Provisional Ballot - A person casting a provisional ballot shall have the right to present written evidence supporting their eligibility to vote to the Supervisor of Elections by no later than 5:00 p.m. on the second day following the election.

Know where to vote - It’s important that all voters view their assigned voting location before going to the polls.
Tuesday, November 5, 2024 – On Election Day, polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and voters must go to their assigned voting location. Voters whose polling place are changed will be notified by mail and signage will be placed at the original location redirecting the voter to the new location, consistent with Florida Statute.
